Meet Mike
Mike wrote jokes long before he signed up for his first open mike at San Francisco’s Cobb’s Café while still in college.
As a young comic, he pestered every headliner he worked with about their joke writing technique, and his comedy career grew in large part because of his strong writing ability.
Mike’s dedication to joke structure and comedy theory made him a sought-after writer/producer in his 20-year career as a television comedy writer, and he is equally devoted to passing on those skills in his workshops, coaching sessions and classes.
Mike’s easy-going, collaborative teaching style demystifies the joke writing process. He promises you’ll write a new, original joke in the first ten minutes of your first class.

Mike got his first big break, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, at 34, and his first television writing job at 36, so he understands that it’s never too late to make a splash in comedy.
Over a 20-year television writing career, Mike:
Wrote for 3 top-ten network sitcoms (Grace Under Fire, Ellen & The Drew Carey Show), received nominations for an Emmy Award and Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Comedy Writing (Real Time with Bill Maher)
Sold a dozen original comedy pilots (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW & BBC)
Worked with some of America’s biggest television and comedy stars (Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen Degeneres, Bert Kreischer, Ryan Reynolds, Drew Carey, Bill Maher, Rodney Carrington, Ron Funches, Will Smith, Reba McEntire, etc.)
